Procedure - Hearing Loss Rehabilitation, Hearing Aids

Hearing loss is a condition commonly experienced by older adults over the age of 55. In fact, 50% of people over the age of 65 have some form of hearing loss. At the Audiology Department at Ogden Clinic in Utah, we offer patients a variety of tests and treatments for hearing loss.

Hearing Tests

Many adults don’t realize the importance of having an annual hearing test. Being tested each year can track changes in your hearing and record any impairments and how they evolve over time. It is important to continue to have hearing tests to fully understand the gravity of your hearing loss.

Treatments and Rehabilitation for Hearing Loss

We know that hearing loss can be stressful for many people. This is why we offer several different treatment options for our patients at Ogden Clinic. Depending on the severity of your hearing loss and its cause, an audiologist may recommend one of the following rehabilitation options:

  • Hearing Aids: For patients with damage to their inner ear, a hearing aid can amplify sounds and minimize hearing loss. Your audiologist can determine if this is the right treatment option for you and which device will work best.
  • Cochlear Implants: A cochlear implant is used for people with severe hearing loss due to an injury or nonworking part of the inner ear. Unlike a hearing aid, a cochlear implant compensates for the part of the ear that is damaged, as opposed to just amplifying sound.
  • Wax Removal: Some people experience minor, and temporary, hearing loss due to a build-up of wax. If this is the cause of your hearing loss, your doctor can flush out the wax to restore your hearing.
  • Surgery: Surgery is only used in cases where patients have experienced a traumatic injury to their ear or have chronic ear infections. Surgery can attempt to repair any part of the ear that has been compromised, and for people with infections, the doctor can place small tubes in the ears to help fluid drain and prevent further infections.

Our audiologists know how much hearing loss can impede your life. Turn to us at Ogden Clinic when you are looking for compassionate and professional hearing loss treatment in Utah.
