Procedure - Sports Medicine

Sports medicine is a rapidly growing field that focuses on helping patients improve their athletic performance, recover from injuries, and prevent future injuries. Sports medicine is a team approach at Ogden Clinic in Utah—our Sports Medicine Specialist frequently works with orthopedic specialists, dietitians, and physical therapists taking a comprehensive approach to your unique needs. Through our multispecialty approach, we can help athletes of all ages compete recreationally or professionally.

Athletes often turn to our sports medicine team when they have suffered an injury, such as ankle sprains, tendonitis, concussions, heat illness, eating disorders, cartilage injuries, knee and shoulder injuries, fractures, and exercise-induced asthma. Our Sports Medicine Specialist can help patients recover from injuries through exercise and maintenance, and also recover from surgery when needed.

Our Sports Medicine specialty at Ogden Clinic can help patients by:

  • Providing diet analysis and nutritional counseling to help athletes gain or lose weight according to their performance goals.
  • Evaluating and treating sports or activity-related injuries, such as the ones mentioned above.
  • Helping patients regain strength following an injury with rehabilitative exercise routines and conditioning programs.
  • Offering assessment and training programs to increase performance and optimize health and fitness.
  • Providing psychological evaluation and treatment to help patients cope with the emotional aspects of an injury and other sports-related trauma.

If you or your child sustains an injury during athletic activity, it is important to assess the severity of the injury. Severe sports injuries that include extreme pain, numbness, swelling, and an inability to put weight on the injured area should receive emergency medical care immediately. For all other injuries, it is important to rest, ice the injured area, use compression, and elevate the injury above your heart. For further steps to recovery, you can work with our sports medicine team.

If you are interested in working with one of our specialists to train for an event, or if you have recently sustained an injury, contact the Sports Medicine specialists at Ogden Clinic in Utah today.
