Procedure - Hormone Management

Do you have uncomfortable symptoms from menopause? At Ogden Clinic in Utah, we offer hormone management and replacement therapy to women looking to relieve their menopausal symptoms. Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) involves taking medications containing the female hormones that the body stops producing after menopause occurs. These medications can significantly reduce the symptoms of menopause including hot flashes. These different hormone medications include:

Systemic Hormone Therapy: Systemic estrogen treatment is one of the most effective ways to combat the frustrating symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes and night sweats, vaginal dryness, and uncomfortable intercourse. These medications come in skin patch, gel, spray, cream, or pill form. Systemic estrogen can also aid in the prevention of osteoporosis.

Low-Dose Vaginal Products: These medications contain a smaller dose of estrogen and are used to treat the vaginal, and some urinary, symptoms of menopause such as vaginal dryness. These medications come in vaginal ring, tablet, and cream form. These lower-dose treatments will not help with hot flashes or night sweats, as they are not fully absorbed by the body but rather used locally.

For women who still have their uterus, an Ogden Clinic specialist will also recommend taking progesterone during hormone management therapy. This is necessary because estrogen taken without the balance of progesterone, can cause growth in the lining of the uterus, which can increase the chances of uterine cancer developing. The use of progesterone is not necessary for women who have had their uterus removed during a hysterectomy.

Hormone replacement therapy is a good choice for women who are of good health and experiencing moderate to severe menopausal symptoms. It is also a good option for women who have not had success with other treatments, have lost bone mass, or for women who went into premature menopause before they turned 40. While hormone replacement therapy is a viable option for many women, it may not be right for everyone.

Are you interested in hormone management and replacement therapy to help relieve your menopausal symptoms? Contact Ogden Clinic in Utah to schedule an appointment and see if you are a good candidate for hormone replacement therapy for menopause.
