Procedure - Infertility

Infertility affects ten to fifteen percent of couples in the U.S. Once a couple goes one year of having unprotected sex and is still not pregnant, it is defined as infertility. At Ogden Clinic in Utah, our specialists can perform some different tests to diagnose infertility and help couples create a plan through treatment. Some causes of infertility in women and men include:

Causes of Infertility in Women

  • Endometriosis
  • Fallopian tube blockage
  • Endometrial polyps
  • Ovulation disorders
  • Premature menopause
  • Pelvic adhesions

Causes of Infertility in Men

  • Abnormal sperm production
  • Premature ejaculation
  • Low sperm count due to environmental factors or cancer treatments
  • Diabetes, STIs, or other health problems

This is not an exhaustive list of causes, and often times there is a combination of factors leading to a couple’s infertility. For this reason, an Ogden Clinic specialist can perform a variety of different procedures, on both men and women, to diagnose the underlying cause of infertility. This can include genetic testing, hormone testing, imaging tests, as well as sperm and ovulation analysis.

There are several infertility treatment options available at Ogden Clinic including:

Sperm Retrieval

This procedure is used to retrieve sperm in men who have low sperm counts, have trouble ejaculating normally, or the ejaculated fluid does not contain any sperm. Sperm retrieval can also be used in combination with other assisted reproductive techniques, such as intrauterine insemination.

Fertility Drugs

Fertility drugs are used mainly to help women with ovulation disorders. These medications help regulate and induce ovulation, greatly increasing the chances of conceiving. There are also medications available to help men increase their sperm count and perform testicular function.

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

During this procedure, healthy sperm are placed directly into the uterus during the time when a woman’s eggs are released. This increases the chance of having a successful fertilization.

For women with uterine endometrial polyps or intrauterine scar tissue, an Ogden Clinic specialist can perform surgery to remove these obstructions which could be preventing pregnancy. There are also surgical options for men, including procedures to reverse sperm blockage, which could be causing infertility.

If you and your partner have been trying to get pregnant and are still finding no success, contact one of Ogden Clinic’s Utah offices to make an appointment for infertility testing and treatment.
